The name Inner Light is inspired by the Japanese word Komorebi. This word does not translate into the english language and literally means “sunbeams that filter through trees”. Komorebi is illustrative of the dance between light and dark that we are all familiar with at different times in our lives. For example, there may be times when life feels heavy with stressors and experiences that can make an impact on our mental health and wellbeing. Perhaps we are experiencing loss, grief, disappointment, stress or recovering from traumatic moments that leave us feeling lost, alone and overwhelmed. Komorebi is a reminder that all things pass, including the darkness that touches our lives.
Rather than looking at our recovery pessimistically, we can see that life is a process that undergoes continual change whereby pain and discomfort are destined to pass in the same way that life's more cherished moments do. With each step we take towards creating the outcomes we desire, we can see that joyous experiences can push through our darker ones in the same way that the sun pushes through the shadows of trees. As we lean into the impermanence of life, we begin to accept that each day is part of a bigger picture – this journey that we call living.

At Inner Light Counselling and Consultation Services, we believe in taking a holistic approach to therapy, treating the whole person and not just their symptoms. We use evidence-based techniques and work collaboratively with our clients to help them achieve their goals.
We believe that everyone has the potential for growth and change, and that therapy can help unlock that potential. We provide a safe and supportive environment where our clients can explore their thoughts and feelings without judgement.
We offer sessions in-person, in a welcoming therapeutic space on Monday and Thursday evenings in Hamilton.
Virtual sessions are available if you would like to remain in the comfort of your own home through a secure and confidential online platform.
